Mustang district is one of the 75 districts of Nepal. It lies at Dhaulagiri zone and covers area of 3573sq. kms. It has world’s highest mountains, Mt. Annapurna and Mt Dhaulagiri bordering China and Tibetan plateau. Agriculture and animal husbandry are main occupations. The entire district lies within Annapurna Conservation Area which oversees development programs, Tourism Management. Mustang is ancient forbidden kingdom. The trek is an exploration of concealed valleys of Upper Mustang in Nepal nestled between Tibet and the Himalayas. Even though upper Mustang is challenging, it surprises visitors with its culture and vistas. The Lo-Manthang has solar electricity, herb garden and there was time when it was mandatory of certain family to supply firewood for Royal family until Republic Nepal in 2005. Upper Mustang trekking was officially opened in 1992. The yak caravans, painted mud brick houses, red cliffs and snow capped mountains are a great vista for tourists.
