Trip Overview

Mardi himal route has been popular with campers for nearly a decade. Mardi himal is under the spectacular Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). The trek goes through wonderful rhododendron forest. The forest path leads to rugged mountain backdrop with a breathtaking view of Mardi Himal. You can reach the Mardi Himal base camp overlooking all of Annapurna range. This trek starts from Kande 1 hour drive from Pokhara downhill to Pothana then upto Deurali through jungle trail brings you to the ridge into Forest Camp. When we leave forest camp we trek to low camp and move towards open ridge with views of Machhapuchhre. We continue trekking to reach Mardi Himal Base Camp (4500m). From there we move to high camp (3580m) around 4 and half hours where Annapurna mountain range is seen full-fledged. After that we trek down to low camp (2990m). From here, we trek to Sidhing, Liwang villages and drive back to Pokhara. We arrive to Kathmandu from Pokhara and the trek ends here.

In 2011 Mardi Himal trek opened officially their tea houses available from starting all the way to high camp. The best time to go trekking is Mid-September/ October to early December and between March to May. You will need:

  • Trekking permits from Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) and Tourism Information Management System (TIMS card).
  • Map
  • Adventure gears and accessories.

The hardest point for many people is going from high camp to the base camp. 6 hours hike over mountain terrain. The best result in trekking is achieved by making it easier trek by going slow. Do checkup and get counseling about altitude sickness. Going up very rapidly is one of the main reasons of this problem. Make your preparations with information and suggestion from your guides for richer experience.
